No. Escrima Concepts also teaches unarmed, empty handed combat.
We frequently hear this!
Weapons teach us about angles, range, timing, and positioning, and these are skills that feed into our unarmed, empty handed combat.
We use the weapons as a training tool as they force us to move and work for better positioning.
One of the core elements of Escrima Concepts is the transition from weapons to unarmed, and how the body mechanics from using the weapon connects and applies to your unarmed empty handed skills.
If you are already a martial artist, then Escrima Concepts can complement your existing knowledge.
We train all combinations of:
We do this in order to give you the complete picture and a comprehensive understanding.
We also train with weapons to gain a better understanding of how to defend against them (if we have no other option)
While you might be a law abiding citizen, other people may be carrying weapons concealed in their clothing or bags, and they can be improvised from everyday objects.
If someone picks up a bottle, a phone, or a rolled up magazine, that object can be used as a weapon.
If we are to have any hope of defending against it, we need to understand it.
Yes! We would never recommend taking on an armed attacker, and as with all self defence, we would always advise:
A physical confrontation should always be the absolute last resort.
Safety is our top priority, and as a beginner you will learn the basics of movement, structure, and footwork, with no speed or power.
As you progress, you will learn how to gradually increase your speed and power in a controlled method without injuring yourself, or your training partner.
Escrima Concepts has a structured syllabus of nine student grades that build on each other in a logical way, giving you a roadmap for your training, and a clear measurable progression.
It's not just a loose collection of techniques, Escrima Concepts is a tightly interconnected and cohesive system that is deep and rewarding to train in.
Once you have completed the nine student grades, you then move into the Technician (black belt) grades.
