Classes will feature a mix of unarmed and weapons. Some may focus more on unarmed, while others may focus more on weapons.
There will be a brief warm up to engage the body and mind, using striking/footwork drills that are directly relevant to training.
You may then be separated into groups to work on curriculum. Sometimes the whole class may work on the same exercise, depending on what the instructor feels is most beneficial.
There is no uniform. We trust you as adults to dress yourselves appropriately, and our instructors are more concerned with what you are doing rather than what you are wearing, though we recommend loose comfortable clothing that you can move around in, and clean indoor trainers. Many of our students wear regular gym attire.
Escrima Concepts has a syllabus of 9 student grades, with beginners starting at grade 1.
Grades 1-3 are the beginner grades, which give you the foundation for the system with your basic strikes, blocks, and footwork.
Grades 4-6 are the intermediate grades, which build on the beginners grades and gradually increases the intensity. New weapons and new techniques are introduced.
Grades 8-9 are the advanced grades, bringing together everything you have previously learned, with speed, power, and pressure added, and further new weapons.
Once you have completed the student grades, you then move onto the Technician Grades (TG) which are the equivalent of black belt (dan) grades.
